Modern House Pool
‘It’s always about the colour of water, especially with simple pool shapes’
Probably the plainest looking pool we have ever built.
We were asked to install a simple and functional pool in a simple and functional house, and as long as we could stick to the modest budget we were free to do anything. The result is a conventional skimmer type pool with plastered finish and wooden deck surround.
We had to hide the pool plant somewhere out of view, which necessitated installing compact cartridge filter and low noise pump at the end of the patio, while a high efficiency heat pump keeps it warm April through October.
Location : The Isles
Project Cost : £225k
Why a skimmer pool still makes sense
A skimmer pool keeps the water level a little below the coping, with skimmers drawing surface water into the filtration. It needs no balance tank, so it costs less to build than a deck-level pool and is simpler to run. For an outdoor family pool it is often the right answer.
A plaster finish gives a soft, natural water colour at a lower cost than tiles. Cartridge filtration suits a compact plant area and avoids backwashing, and an air-source heat pump is the most efficient way to heat an outdoor pool through the main swimming season.
