Hydrotherapy Pool
When a pool is not just a pool.
Designed for a home of disabled kids, this hydrotherapy pool is probably the most technologically advanced that we have ever built, and we are proud of it. It has sophisticated light and sound effects, plus a track mounted disabled lift that brings the users straight out from the change rooms.
Due to the high temperatures that this pool is run at for extended hours, the filtration, heating and ventilation systems installed are not only of very high capacity, but also high efficiency to keep the running costs down.
Location : London
Project Cost : £225k
What a hydrotherapy pool needs
Hydrotherapy water is typically kept in the low-to-mid 30s °C, much warmer than a standard pool. Warm water evaporates faster, so dehumidification must be sized to a proper moisture-load calculation, and heat recovery makes a large difference to running costs.
Therapy pools also carry a high bather load relative to their volume. That calls for faster water turnover and close control of disinfection and pH, in line with PWTAG guidance for hydrotherapy pools. Access is designed in from the start: hoist routes, level thresholds, handrails and slip-resistant surfaces.
