Indoor Pool with Spa, Dulwich

Swim, relax and unwind, all under one roof.

The idea is one room for both exercise and relaxation: a pool long enough to swim in, and a hot spa to unwind in afterwards. The room opens to the garden in summer and stays calm and warm through the winter.

Pool and spa in one design

The spa is built into the pool rather than added beside it, which keeps the room uncluttered and lets swimmers move straight from one to the other. Both are finished in deep mosaic tiling that gives the water a rich, mirror-like surface. Twin stainless steel ladders give easy entry, and a hardwood timber deck warms up the poolside.

A room designed around light

We planned the lighting in layers so the room works at any time of day: daylight from skylights and bi-fold doors opening onto the garden, warm wall uplighters to soften the walls in the evening, a recessed LED ceiling cove for even, glare-free light, and underwater lights that bring the pool to life after dark.

Comfortable all year, efficient to run

A pool and a hot spa in one room produce a lot of moisture. Filtration, heating and ventilation were designed together to keep the water and air comfortable all year round, with efficient equipment to keep the running costs down.
