Designer Stone Swimming Pool, London: Case Study

A geometric marvel that adds just the right amount of ‘Drama’.

Designed by the Italian architect ‘Claudio Silvestrin’ to be a designer home, this house has two storeys above the ground and three below. The entire house (walls and floor) is finished in Italian stone and the swimming pool is no exception.

A perfect example of the new contemporary design, the pool has a massage island, central feature skylight and a sloping wall to add drama to the scheme. A subtle waterfall, matching steam room and minimalistic sauna complete the look.

Location : London.

Project Cost : £175k

Building a stone-finished pool

Natural stone is far less forgiving than mosaic. Each stone must be checked for density and water absorption before it goes anywhere near a pool, and it sits on the same waterproofing system and 72-hour pressure test as any of our pools. Movement joints are planned around the stone layout so the finish stays continuous.

A skylight over warm water brings its own engineering. The glazing and the air-handling system are designed together so that condensation is controlled at the coldest surface in the room. A massage island also needs its own pump and pipework, kept separate from the main filtration circuit so it can run on demand.
